5th

We have had a very busy year so far in 5th Class!!!! We are really trying to make an effort with our
Gaeilge and trying to use our Irish as much as we can in school throughout the day. We incorporate our Gaeilge lessons across many curricular areas and it is paying off as our Gaeilge is really improving!

We are working very hard in English and have had Literacy Stations, which the children really benefitted from. They really enjoyed the variety of work covered during the stations. It was great to have three teachers
working in the room with us.  We are enjoying our novel work and have completed the novel ‘Under The Hawthorn Tree’.  We are currently reading the novel 'Anne Frank' and the children are enjoying it so far!

The children have worked very hard on their projects for SESE this year.  They have completed projects on ‘The Rugby World Cup’.  They researched a country each and prepared a digital presentation on their country and presented it to their class. They have learned so much about each country and have really enjoyed the research aspect. I am also very impressed with their technical and presentation skills!

The children also completed a project on 'Inventions'.  We were learning about 'Irish Inventors' in History and 'Kid Inventions' and 'Accidental Inventions' as part of our Starlight Programme.  The children worked individually and in groups to come up with their own inventions!  There were some very interesting ideas!!  The children also presented their inventions to the class.  We definitely have some entrepreneurs among us!!

A lot of work has been done in art so far this year. Our class have entered the Credit Union art
competition, the Folens Halloween drawing competition and the Texaco Art Competition.  They also designed their
own Christmas cards and got them printed.  They turned out great!  Our classroom always looks so colourful and bright when we display their artwork.

As part of the SPHE curriculum we have completed The ‘Friends For Life’ programme  This is a school-based positive mental health programme that promotes emotional resilience and reduces anxiety in children and adolescents. The children really enjoyed it and hopefully each child will benefit from it.

Our class love to get outside to work in the outdoor classroom when the weather is  fine.  They also really enjoy working in the school garden, weeding it, planting vegetables, watching them grow and enjoying sampling their produce!!

Our musical skills are progressing very well in 5th class!  We are learning the tin whistle and the ukulele and we can see how practice makes perfect!!
